Importance of Organizational Behaviour

There are many ways that OB can improve a business’s competitiveness by explaining, predicting, and changing how people act.

Gives you a long-term competitive edge

Through different OB practises that are aligned with goals, OB turns people in an organisation into valuable, rare, unique, and unreplaceable resources. Individual development, team design, and leadership development are some of the ways that OB can build a culture of trust, innovation, performance, and sharing of knowledge.

This is something Google would do, which is why it is hard to beat them. People outside of the organisation (OB) can feel the effects of its work, but so can our customers. It can be very bad for business if the employees are unhappy or don’t treat customers properly.

Each Individual Component

OB is important to do the following things, as shown above:

Find out why people aren’t performing well or at all and make changes possible.

Help someone change how they act so they can reach their full potential by figuring out what drives them, how they can learn, be more creative, and deal with stress. That is, OB can make it easier for a person to do a wide range of things that are needed to be competitive.

Rajiv is having a hard time with sales and finds the job very stressful. His boss is worried about how shy he is. There would not have been a problem if we had used a psychometric test before hiring him. If we made a mistake in hiring him, we can still confirm that he has the right personality and move him to a different job where he can do well. Third, you could teach him how to change his behaviour.

Part of the organisation

OB helps plan, organise, and change culture to make an organisation that learns and comes up with new ideas. It gives ideas on how to integrate a subculture within an organization’s main culture.

For example, workers and organisations in Kerala often take part in “hartals,” which are forced work stoppages used by Indian political parties as a form of protest. However, workers at different companies in the Technopark in Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala, where the IT industries are located, do not take part in these hartals. It shows that there is a subculture among companies in the Technopark.

Managing and predicting how people will act

Organizational behaviour is a sociological field, which means it’s all about people and how they act. To control how people act, it’s very important to study OB. OB also helps us manage and guess how employees will act in different situations. For instance, if the company needs to finish a job right away, they will have to work extra hours. In this case, some workers might get mad and refuse to work extra hours. This is when OB comes in handy. Someone who studies the OB will be able to handle that situation with ease.

If the manager understands the human needs of the business correctly, it can work to meet those needs and also come up with new plans and incentives to keep employees happy and boost their morale.

How a company works

OB helps to define the company culture, which includes things like experience, rules, values, and how people should act in a certain industry. Each group has its own set of rules and regulations. Different people have different ideas about what is right and wrong, so the values and rules are set by them. OB tells you how the culture of the company can affect employees’ behaviour in both good and bad ways. As well as how the mission, actions, rewards, and traditions of the company affect the employees in different ways. Getting to know other people at work can help an employee learn how to behave. The employee learns about the company culture while getting to know other people.

Another part of studying organisational behaviour is figuring out how to change people’s behaviour. People in charge should find out how employees feel about changes to rules or procedures before they are made.

Problem-solving

It’s normal for problems to come up at work, but how do you fix them? Can have an effect on the worker. As we’ve already talked about, each employee is different. It’s a little hard to make a strong link between them and figure out how to solve the problem based on each behaviour. When making tools and techniques to solve problems in an industry, it’s important to think about the social and psychological aspects of those problems.

Improving relations between workers

The organisation depends on good relationships between management and employees, so it’s important to keep them in check and make them better. We can build a good relationship with the employee by rewarding and encouraging them. Employee self-actualization or morale can also be raised by rewarding and encouraging them. This would be good for the place where people work. OB helps to figure out why problems happen at work and manage the bad effects of those problems.
